Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District , has facilitated the provision of five hundred sets of E-Pads to five Secondary Schools in Sokoto State, by the Nigerian Communications Commission ( NCC).
The schools are : Government Secondary School, Wamakko, Government Girls Secondary School, Gidan Madi, Government Science College, Sokoto, Government Secondary School, Silame and Government Secondary School, Runjin Sambo.
This is contained in a letter to the various Principals of the benefitting Secondary Schools signed by Yusuf A. Argungu , Head , Procurement Department of the Commission, on behalf of its Executive Vice Chairman.
The letter said that, the gesture was sequel to the nomination of these schools by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Each of the benefiting Schools has received one hundred sets of tablet computers. The gesture will undoubtedly facilitate effective teaching and learning in these schools as ICT is currently the vogue , globally .
The project which is to be executed under the Commission’s Schools Support Project , entails the supply, configuration and integration of the E-Pads with Internet Connection and Educational Contents .
It further said that, the project provides a platform for teaching , learning , research and development.
The objective is to encourage the use of ICT in academic development and facilitate easier access to intellectual resources available, globally .
According to the letter , during the implementation of the project , the schools and the Commission will need to maintain close interaction , to ensure the sustainability of the project .
In addition, the maintenance of the facility and sustainability of the project will become the responsibility of the institutions after the warranty / maintenance period
In the same vein, the viable innovations of the institutions is crucial in ensuring optimal utilization .
The letter stressed the necessity by the benefiting school’s to judiciously use the facilities for the purpose they are meant for and not for perosnal use.
Commenting on behalf of the benefiting school’s, the Principal of Government Secondary School, Silame , Alhaji Attahirun Ahmadu III, commended Senator Wamakko for facilitating the supply of the E-Pads to the schools.
The Principal said that, the E-Pads would facilitate effective teaching and learning in the schools .
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Schools Based Management Committee of the school, Alhaji Attahiru Sarkin Gobir, Marafan Silame underscored the importance of the invaluable gesture to teaching and learning in the schools .
The SBMC Chairman further said that, ICT was now the Vogue globally , as such, the gesture facilitated by Senator Wamakko would go a long way in making the schools to be at par with the current global trends in ICT.
In a related development,the Universal Service Provision Fund ( USPF), is to install and commission assorted Information, Communications and Technology ( ICT), tools at Sokoto Science College .
This is contained in another letter from the Fund, signed by its Secretary , Engineer Chukwu Emmanuel , again facilitated by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the Sarkin Yakin Sokoto.
The fund will also refurbish the Institution’s ICT Laboratory , provide Desktop Computers, laptops , Internet Access and a learning software .
Others include the provision of 10 KVA Solar Power Solution , Inverter battery , UPS, Colour Printers , High Resolution Scanners , Multi Media Projectors and associated furniture , as well as accessories ,among others .
The Fund was established by the Federal Government, to facilitate the achievement of national policy goals, for universal service and universal access to ICT in rural, unserved as well as underserved areas in Nigeria .
In fulfilment of its mandate of making ICT available to unserved and underserved communities , the USPF, provides ICT tools and equipment to public secondary schools under its School Knowledge Centre ( SKC), Project .
