The Katsina State House of Assembly has directed the State Judicial Service Commission to investigate the illegal recruitment of 148 judiciary staff from 2014 to 2017.
The house did not find any wrongdoing from the office of katsina state account general on withheld salaries of 152 judiciary staffs
The House Speaker, Alhaji Tasiu Maigari made the assembly’s position known after the House recieved and adopted the report of its special committee on the verification of withheld salaries of judiciary staff by the Office of the State Accountant-General.
The ten-member committee was chaired by the Member Representing Musawa Constituency, Alhaji Lawal Yaro who presented the committee’s report before the house.
As part of its report, the committee recommended that disciplinary action be taken against the staff of the Judicial Service Commission that carried out the unauthorized recruitments.
It also recommended that the Judicial Service Commission should take necessary steps to recover monies misappropriated by the commission during the period under review.
Other recommendations of the committee include a legislative directive to the JSC to reorganize its Finance and Administration departments and to revisit the promotion of two directors of the commission which violated civil service rules.
The committee however noted that the 47 excess staff that were recruited in 2014 were productive, having acquired adequate training and experience on the job, and should therefore be retained rather than sacked.
After the house adopted the committee’s report, the Speaker, Alhaji Tasiu Maigari, directed the clerk to compile the recommendations contained in the report and forward them as a legislative directive to the Judicial Service Commission and the Office of the State Head of Service.
