Fire has engulfed the Katsina state House of Assembly in the night of Wednesday,21/04/2021.
The fire outbreak, which the state Governor Aminu Bello Masari has has called for full investigation on its causes.
First investigation conducted by our twins publications have shown that there is more to it, than meet the eyes in the inferno.
An Expert in extinguishing fire interviewed by our correspondent said the fire outbreak had been eating deep in the main chambers of the Assembly before it was realised and effort made to contain it.
Similarly it was obseved that the fire outbreak was also not caused by electricity problem as investigation showed that the main chambers was not open for over thirty days.
All that enters the main chambers will observed the unhygienic condition that the chambers was in before the fire outbreak, which the fire razed on the ground.
As at the time of the fire outbreak, legislative staff were still on strike, which made the building to remain closed.
The investigation conducted also showed that on the night of the outbreak, KEDCO had not supplied electricity to the Assembly. A visit to the KEDCO confirmed that no light was supplied on the fateful night at the Assembly complex and the surrounding legislative quarters.
The investigation showed that the fire begun little by little and grew to engulf the building. What baffles people is the non showing of remorse by legislators following the fire outbreak. Our correspondents visited the Assembly complex on four occasions without meeting not even one legislator on a visit to sympathize over the incidence, and could therefore not be contacted to hear their views on the inferno.
Even at the time of the visit of Governor Aminu Bello Masari, only one legislator was there to welcome and took him round the complex. As at the time, the Speaker was on a jamboree trip to Abuja while his Deputy is nowhere to be seen.
Not long ago, the main chambers was completely renovated with huge amount from tax payers money that made it one of the best legislative chambers in the country. Even before the completion of the renovation works, there was outcry from the legislators on the mode of award of contract and therefore left several unanswered questions. Some of the legislators interviewed by this writer has called for an high powered independent committee to probe the fire incident and Carry out the investigation without fear or favour.
