Exclusive: Ganduje Offers Job To Blind Teacher

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has offered a job to Dahuru Idris Abdulhamid, a blind volunteer teacher in the state.

This came after a Daily Trust report brought Dahuru to the limelight.

Though visually impaired, Dahuru, who is well educated, has been contributing his quota to the society.

After Daily Trust published his story on September 25, 2021, a philanthropist bought him a four-bedroom apartment.

In a video interview published this weekend, Dahuru had expressed appreciation for the gesture but appealed for a permanent job.

The state government, through its commissioner of education, Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru, had reached out to Dahuru on Saturday following the video publication.

He had invited Dahuru to Government House, Kano, where he met with Ganduje.

The governor was said to have asked the young blind teacher what he wanted the state government to do for him, to which he reiterated his earlier appeal for a permanent and pensionable employment.

Ganduje, thereafter, directed Dahuru to be offered a permanent and pensionable teaching job Special Education School, Tudun Maliki on Grade 7(2).

This is the same school Dahuru had his primary and secondary education.

Dahuru is currently studying at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on a full scholarship courtesy Professor Uba Abdallah, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the institution.

Similarly, following Saturday’s publication of Dahuru’s video, Near Foundation offered him a N10,000 monthly transportation support till the end of his study at NOUN.
