To expand Nigeria’s possibility of gaining food security, as well as to stimulate the economy through job opportunities in the agricultural value chain, do you know that the Buhari administration has just flagged-off the dry season wheat farming in Jigawa State?
The dry season wheat farming, which is being implemented through the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), was flagged-off on a 100-hectare farm donated by the Jigawa State government in Marke town, Kaugama Local Government Area on Saturday, November 20, 2021.
The dry season wheat farming is commencing as a pilot scheme in 9 states whose lands have been scientifically analysed and proven to be fit for growing the crop, and over 10,000 metric tonnes of wheat is expected to be produced annually from this pilot initiative alone.
And as an immediate benefit to the economy of Jigawa State, the commencement of this dry season wheat farming in Marke town has provided 300 on-the-spot jobs to youths in the area, with the expectation of more jobs and business opportunities during the harvest and processing time in early 2022.
