To address the challenges of value addition to the cassava crop, and to help the thousands of farmers in Rivers State who grow the crop gain more financial returns for their productivity, do you know that a Cassava Processing Plant has been established and commissioned at Afam town to help in achieving these goals?
The plant, which was developed through an economic investment partnership between the Rivers State Government and the Buhari administration, was commissioned by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on the 27th of May 2021.
At the commissioning, the Minister said the plant will help in achieving the goal of 10% high quality cassava flour (HQCF) in bread and confectionery production in Nigeria so as to reduce wheat importation and conserve foreign exchange for other needs.
Considering that this plant will be fed with cassava produced by over 3,000 farmers from the various farming communities around the Afam area, coupled with the fact that it is expected to create thousands of new jobs and businesses in the product’s value chain, makes this industrial partnership an economically beneficial project that should be sustained.
