In the last quarter of the year 2015, federal government of Nigeria, introduced Anchor Borrower program, ABM, in order to boost country’s economy through Agricultural sector.
President of the federal government of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, launched the program in Abuja capital city of the nation, on 17th, November, 2015.
At the begining, the program was funded with the sum of 200 billion naira by FGN. The ABP focused on cultivation and production of raice, wheat, maize, sorghum, palm oil, cocoa and etc, objectively to minimizes country’s over dependent on foreign foodstuffs.
As of January, 2022, over 4.8 millions farmers across the country benefited from the program. President Muhammadu Buhari made this statements in FCT, Abuja, while unveiling stacked rice pyramids produced by farmers under Ancho Borrower initiative across the country. He also disclosed that, rice production in Nigeria has reached over 7.5 millions metric tons on yearly basis.
