By Al-Amin Ciroma

To ensure compliance with the INEC’s directives to produce a running mate in accordance with the provisions of the electoral acts, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, weighed options on a credible person as his running mate for the 2023 general elections.

Although some reports say that earlier, the Asiwaju camp narrowed down on the Kebbi State Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai and the former Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, but analysts confirmed that among all the shortlisted and others that are now on the list, none is more capable than the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

It is reliably gathered that the calculation made about Governor Ganduje was to ensure productivity and efficiency in delivering bulk votes for the ruling party.
It is expected that the bulk of his votes are expected to come from the North West, where Governor Ganduje has a presence, and other parts like the North East and North Central.

It will be recalled that since the conclusion of the primaries of the two political parties, attention has since been shifted to the selection of running mates for the two leading political parties in the country.

Analysts say the choice of the running mates will determine the victory or otherwise of any candidate in the February 25, 2023, presidential election.

The INEC has set a firm deadline of June 17 for the submission of candidates for presidential positions.
Ganduje’s likely chances to emerge as the frontrunner are considering the fact that Kano, as the central point of northern politics, is in his territory, and as the party leader, he has all the prowess to ensure he delivers for his constituency.

The second point is that the Ganduje-led-government in Kano State has proven to set a pace for excellence dividends of democracy in the north. His proficiency proves that his selling point is second to none.

The APC candidate, Jagaban, can testify that Governor Ganduje gave him a standing ovation, which aided his election as the party’s flagbearer.

Analysts feel that most of the personalities penciled down enjoy support from all corners of the nation, but Governor Ganduje stood out for his magnanimity, commitment, and deliverance to the ruling party not only in his state but at the national level.
